Summary (Position located in Norfolk, VA)
Fairbanks Morse, an EnPro Industries company, is looking for a Buyer to join our team. Responsible for performance improvement of specific purchased materials, equipment and/or services that support the Aftermarket Business goals and objectives regarding price control/cost reduction, delivery performance, service and quality expectations. Purchases made to order and one-off parts in response to customer demands and delivery requirements. Together with the Inventory Planner, purchases stocked components in accordance with the approved stocking plan. Comply with policies and procedures to insure appropriate internal controls are followed in compliance with government regulations.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supplier promise date compliance to customer requirements
  • Reconcile supplier problems including aiding in supplier root cause and corrective action, non-conformance control and supplier accountability and responsiveness
  • Maintain close personal contact with critically aligned suppliers while enhancing long-term partnerships including effective communications, good relations, and positive images with suppliers, promoting courtesy, objectivity and fairness
  • Solicit bids, negotiate pricing and terms and conditions, maintain lead time data integrity and process price requests to sales in a timely manner
  • Develop alternate sources, insuring continuity of supplies, consistency of quality and competitive pricing. Must also take into consideration non-price issues
  • Work within a team environment and perform other purchasing functions as required inclusive of expediting of fulfillment emergencies
  • Evaluate suppliers through business reviews with objective and data driven performance measurements. This includes but is not limited to cost reduction projects, delivered quality, service performance and overall stability of supplier operations to minimize supply chain risk
  • Track, maintain, and report key performance indicators for the purchasing planned supply to support projects and aftermarket sales. This includes continuous supplier evaluations, reports, and compliance reporting
  • Conducts terms and conditions review, specific contract language, and NDA coordination in coordination with management and the legal department
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in Business or technical field required, and BS degree in a technical, supply chain, or business curriculum strongly preferred
  • Three years purchasing experience in a heavy manufacturing environment
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Competence in the use of Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Projects, experience with Oracle ERP system a plus
  • Must be able to travel as necessary (some foreign travel possible)
  • CPSM/CPIM or other professional certification or the active pursuit of certification is preferred
  • Prior work experience in Purchasing or Supply Chain Management preferred with focus on strategic sourcing, supplier development, and/or cost reduction
  • Proven ability to develop collaborative relationships and influence throughout the organization
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
