Fairbanks Morse, an EnPro Industries company, is looking for a Director of Product Management to join our team in a critical and strategic role for the organization. This position is responsible for leading a group of product managers and application engineers who are driving commercialization of new solutions working within Fairbanks Morse's innovation and Portfolio Management Process (PfM). The position requires driving the business case and prioritization for commercialization of the portfolio by interfacing with customers, Segment Business Leaders (Sales), Engineering, Marketing, Service, Program Management, Finance and R&D functions.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have the ability to maximize business value by leading all strategic activities within the current and future assigned product portfolio, including multi-generational product planning, market positioning, and commercial definition. In this role, you will:

Product Line Management

  • Manage a group of product and applications managers
  • Drive increased revenue for product lines and services
  • Establish processes to capture, maintain, utilize, and communicate portfolio lifecycle data and help guide the company to making the right prioritization decisions by driving multiple business cases at the same time
  • Develop and manage pricing strategies
  • Fully understand customer requirements and specify technical requirements that will differentiate our products
  • Partner with business leaders to identify and support commercial opportunities
  • Support sales and participate in key industry events and customer meetings through presentations as appropriate to promote the product, services and overall brand
  • Author technical white papers and application briefs related to product(s)
  • Collaborate with Marketing Communications on the development of supporting collateral, including presentations, application guides, and effective print and digital sales tools
  • Benchmark products from competitors in currently served segments to identify new product or enhancement opportunities
  • Develop and drive a product roadmap for the portfolio
  • Act as a product manager while managing the product development group

  • Market Awareness

  • Develop competitive analysis of existing products and services; translate analysis into compelling differentiation and customer value propositions
  • Ensure ongoing competitiveness of existing products and installed base by understanding customer needs and shifts in demand and translating those into actionable plans
  • Benchmark products from competitors outside current served segments to identify new application opportunities
  • Stay current with emerging technology trends

  • New Product Introduction

  • Manage product and services portfolio, work within the framework of Fairbanks Morse's innovation and phase/gate processes and technical teams to develop NPI program priorities and budgets
  • Define product requirements and develop business cases to support investment in new programs
  • Support NPI programs to meet schedule milestones and tollgates
  • Collaborate cross-functionally as appropriate to develop and implement commercialization plans

  • Qualifications and Educational Requirements
    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited college / university is required
    • MBA in Business or Marketing is desired
    • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Product Management, Application Engineering or Technical Sales role is required
    • Demonstrated understanding of Fairbanks Morse products, engine performance, emissions, associated standards, and system-related trade-offs
    • Demonstrated understanding of commercial marine, locomotive, gas/oil and/or power generation (most preferred) market and industry relative to the use of internal combustion engines
    • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, as required
    • This position includes access or potential access to export controlled data. Therefore, you will need to qualify as a U.S. Person, which is defined as a U.S. Citizen, a U.S. Permanent Resident or a political asylee in compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Acceptable proof of this status includes a US Passport, Permanent Resident Card, US birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate. Maintenance, including renewal, of licensing authorization is a condition of employment. Government authorization may be a suitable alternative after review on a case by case basis.
